What is Healthchecks?

Healthchecks is an open-source monitoring service that tracks scheduled tasks and background jobs by listening for periodic ping signals. Users generate a unique ping URL for each job, configure that job to send an HTTP request to the URL on each run, and receive alerts when pings fail to arrive on schedule. The product is designed for teams managing cron jobs, nightly backups, weekly reports, and other automated tasks that should run at predictable intervals. By detecting when scheduled jobs don't execute or run late, Healthchecks helps prevent silent failures that might otherwise go unnoticed. The service offers a free tier supporting up to 20 monitored jobs without requiring a credit card. This makes it accessible for small-scale deployments and testing. As open-source software, Healthchecks can also be self-hosted by users who prefer to run the monitoring infrastructure on their own servers. The monitoring approach is straightforward: rather than checking if a job is running, Healthchecks simply waits for the job to report in. If the expected ping arrives late or not at all, the system triggers alerts through configured notification channels.
